WHAT
IS BORON?
As well as being used
as a timber preservative, Boric Acid has a variety of applications
in both INDUSTRIAL and CONSUMER products.
The bacteriostatic and
fungicidal properties of boric acid have led to its use as a
preservative in natural products such as leather and starch
products. It is also used in washing citrus fruit to inhibit
mould and mildew and serves as a non-irritating antiseptic in
mouth washes, hair rinse, talcum powder, eye washes and protective
ointments.
It is relatively non-toxic
to mammals but quite poisonous to insects and has been used
to control cockroaches and ants. Inorganic boron compounds are
generally good FIRE RETARDANTS.
